Mizrahi Developments looks back at 2017 with a unique pairing of wine and theatre
A new type of dinner theatre recently took the stage in Ottawaâs West-End to help celebrate all of the exciting changes the city is experiencing.
âOttawa is on the cusp of a major transformation,â says Sam Mizrahi President of Mizrahi Developments, who is bringing 1451 Wellington, a new landmark building to the intersection of Wellington West and Island Park Drive.
âWith several major urban redevelopment projects in the works, the pending arrival of a new LRT, and influx of young people and new creative industries, we wanted to take this opportunity to celebrate 2017 with community members who are contributing to and embracing all these changes.â
Mizrahiâs end-of-year themed event was dubbed a â2017 News Nightcapâ and was hosted inside the fully-appointed Presentation Gallery for 1451 Wellington. While actors re-enacted top news stories from 2017, guests were treated to thoughtfully crafted food and wine pairings curated by one of the worldâs best Sommeliers, Veronique Rivest, owner of Soif Wine Bar.
âCanadians are wine lovers,â said Rivest. âWine makers from around the world love coming to this country, because we are open minded and curious.â
Rivest took Mizrahiâs guests on a journey around the world with an all-white theme and shared her expertise. The tasting kicked-off with a Henry of Pelham sparkling from Niagara Peninsula that was paired with mini fish tacos and crisp vegetarian rice paper rolls. If you are looking to serve sparkling wine for the holidays, Rivest stressed it does not need to be served only as an aperitif. âSparkling wine is one of the greatest food wines in the world, because of its low alcohol content, high acidity and the fact that it does not have a lot of oak. Whenever in doubt, usually sparkling wine is the answer.â Itâs also a great way to bring home-grown flavour to the dinner table âwe have the perfect climatic conditions in Canada for world-class sparkling wines,â she added.
The wines that followed included a GrĂŒner Veltliner from Austria, a classic Southern White Burgundy from France, and a dessert wine from the Tokaji region of Hungary. Accompanying canapĂ©s by Tulips and Maple ranged from light and fresh root vegetable flavours to rich and creamy bites.
The eveningâs entertainment also included a toast to 2017âs most memorable headlines with theatre performances by Ottawaâs Improv Embassy. Guests were asked to share their favourite news stories from 2017 which resulted in improv sketches that poked fun at Ottawaâs swelling tech sector, Ottawaâs La Machine and Justin Trudeauâs selfies and socks.
Located at the crossroads of Westboro and Wellington West, Mizrahiâs 1451 Wellington is walking distance from the cityâs newest and hottest restaurants, boutique retail and fitness studios. The residence will be Ottawaâs first true luxury condominium experience, designed with a superior standard of interior finishes. The lifestyle also includes valet services and five-star hotel-inspired amenities. The project was designated as a landmark building by Ottawaâs Urban Design Review Panel and in 2017 was awarded Condo of The Year by The Greater Ottawaâs Homebuilderâs Association.
